Whenever Mercury (transport, computers, travel, paperwork, internet, media) appears to stand still, but also go backwards and forwards, so does life. It is a useful time to rehearse, review, rewind, rethink. It coincides with rescheduling, product recall, retracted statements and reversed decisions. Put the ‘re’ prefix in front of most words on Mercury Retrograde in 2021, 2022.

MERCURY RETROGRADE IN AQUARIUS: January 15th to March 13th, 2021

Between Friday, January 15th and Saturday, March 13th, 2021, there will be a chain of cancellations, closures, strikes and extreme weather events around the world. The COVID-19 crisis will affect the European Union but also the United Nations. (Both are ruled by Aquarius, the sign of groups).
The Sports Cancellations and Delays of January 15th-March 13th 2021
The 2021 Pro Bowl is virtual, but because it is held on January 30th 2021, there will be player cancellations due to COVID-19 and/or technical problems, likely involving ticketing or streaming. The FIFA World Cup rescheduled to 1st-11th February will also see player cancellations and a possible second rescheduling. Other casualties of Mercury Retrograde rescheduling, reshuffles or possible cancellation – in the teams sign of Aquarius – will be Super Bowl LV (February 7th), the 2021 Australian Open (February 8th to 21st) and the 2021 America’s Cup. The Ashes cricket series will also hit the risk of rescheduling, cancellation or technical issues, if the organisers go ahead with it from January 15th to March 13th 2021.
The reason for this is that Aquarius rules sports fans and teams and here we have Mercury going backwards in that sign. I have been a professional astrologer for 30 years since I began my career at ELLE magazine in my old home town of Sydney and I’m afraid I have to honour the facts.
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia and COVID-19
The decision of the Premier of NSW and the Prime Minister of Australia to allow New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day 2021 to go ahead in Sydney and across New South Wales, Australia will put the entire country at risk, with a new NSW and Sydney COVID-19 wave from January 15th. Mercury Retrograde 2021-2022 is actually set up twice by this period. It repeats.
This is unfortunately one incubation period of two weeks, for the virus, after mass travel and public gatherings. The timing could not be worse from an astrologer’s point of view, as New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day are potential super spreader events, as doctors and epidemiologists have warned. Astrology agrees with the science, here. This is bad timing.
Sydney will not be over the long-term impact of the fated decision to allow New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day shopping, travel and mass gatherings to go ahead – until March 13th 2021. Have Plan B, C and D between January 15th and March 13th, Sydney. I am sure that you are like most of my readers and embrace masks, testing, staying at home, hand gel and hand washing. I used to write the daily horoscopes for The Daily Telegraph in Sydney and so although the COVID-19 cancellations and rescheduling is global, January 15th to March 13th, 2021 – this city and state should be extremely COVID cautious.
New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day Super Spread Events
I’m afraid that any city, region and country which does not shut down for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day 2021, will be opening up to Mercury Retrograde chaos two weeks later, ongoing until March 13th, 2021. This timing is astrologically exact.
Extreme Weather and Global Rescheduling – January 15th to March 13th, 2021
Extreme weather events created by Climate Emergency will also create a chain-reaction of global rescheduling, January 15th to March 13th, 2021. Again, have Plan B, C and D. Get everything in writing and read the fine print on cancellation or delay. We will see fires, storms and floods which disrupt us worldwide. This is a really good time to stay at home and refresh, review and rethink your plans for 2021, left over from 2020. It’s a great time to rewind old films and television series you love.
Political Reshuffles and Leadership Spills – January 15th to March 13th, 2021
Aquarius rules political parties. The Republicans and Democrats in America. The Conservative and Labour parties in Great Britain. The Liberal National, Labour and Greens parties in Australia. We are going to see reshuffles, and perhaps two rounds of reshuffles, across most of these parties, January 15th to March 13th 2021. Leadership spills are likely and some big names go. As so many people plan their mid-year vacations in March, perhaps based around events like the Tokyo Olympics, it’s also time to look at the middle of 2021 and the Mercury Retrograde 2021-2022 whole cycle.

Between the 18th and the 25th of February 2021, Bill Clinton goes through a long period of misinformation, wrong calls from the media and other peculiar situations, drawing in questions about his private life and personal relationships. There is no reliable data for Donald Trump so I cannot look at the allegations made about the friendships between both men and Jeffrey Epstein. Otherwise that would be an obvious issue to look at, from February 18th to 25th, 2021.
MERCURY RETROGRADE IN GEMINI: May 15th to July 7th, 2021
Here is another period to watch, particularly if you were planning to take a vacation or short holiday at this time. Be aware that Mercury Retrograde, historically, coincides with delays, cancellations and postponements.
From Saturday 15th May to Wednesday the 7th of July 2021, we have the planet of short journeys moving backwards and forwards. In the sign of Gemini, which rules domestic flights, ferries and short-haul cruises, trains, buses, coaches, cars, motorbikes, bicycles, taxis – you should be aware of the potential for airline collapses. Mercury Retrograde 2021-2022 is extreme.
Cruise and ferry collapses too! Issues with Eurostar are very likely. Read the fine print on purchases. Gemini rules communication as well as transportation so this cycle is also about computers, telephones, fax machines and the post office or mail system. This is also a prime period for hacking and computer viruses, along with that other virus.

The Tokyo Olympics in Astrology 2021
The rescheduled Tokyo Olympics between 21st July to 8th August 2021 will be affected by transport, travel and computer issues up until 7th July, a fortnight before the games is supposed to commence.
MERCURY RETROGRADE IN LIBRA: September 7th – November 3rd, 2021
From Tuesday the 7th of September to Wednesday the 3rd of November 2021, Mercury will move forwards, slow down, get stuck, go backwards and retrace his steps – in the sign of Libra. This rules all duets and duels. So: marriage, engagement, separation, divorce, business partnership, professional partnership, relationships. We are going to see cancellations and rescheduling for more world sporting events during the dates below, as Aquarius rules teams. Many politicians secretly use astrology and should be aware of the high risk of more COVID-19 chaos across these time-frames. Counting backwards we find ourselves looking at Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day 2021 on December 24th, 25th and 26th as likely super-spreader periods, given where we end up on January 3rd. Mercury moves retrograde through 24-29 degrees of Capricorn from Wednesday the 29th of December 2021. He then disappears! New Year’s Eve, Friday 31st December 2021 and New Year’s Day, Saturday 1st January 2022, is a vanishing act. Mercury turns up again on Thursday 27th January 2022 and is retrograde until Monday 14th February.

Mercury Retrograde in Taurus 2022
Now, Taurus rules our money, and the share markets, so this is worth knowing about a year ahead. Taurus is associated with Wall Street, because of gold bullion, bull markets and the famous charging bull in that area of New York.
Mercury, the planet of media statements, computer technology, share prices and currency rates moves backwards and forwards as follows, through Taurus, between 27th April and 29th April 2022, then again on 24th May to 13th June, in the same year. What To Do – Mercury Retrograde in 2021 and 2022
Mercury Retrograde is useful for dress rehearsals and first attempts. First drafts and beta testing. It is sensible to have everything in writing on Mercury Retrograde and if necessary, to ask a professional to give a second opinion. It is also sensible to have Plan B, C and D. Back up important information and do not leave anything to chance.
Astrology is still ignored or derided by the mainstream, unfortunately, but we are going to see the cancellation or rescheduling of The Ashes cricket tournament, to name just one sporting event, if the organisers schedule it for Mercury Retrograde 21-22.
For your purposes, look at your personal birth chart (all Premium Members can see if Mercury is moving across the same zodiac sign and degree, as anything in their natal horoscope). At december 31st I’m officially unemployed. And then I will receive unemployment money. I’m entitled to 13 months. Since a few months I’m suffering a deep depression so the money is welcome. Well I worked for it and paid for it the past 20
Years. I’ve been seeing a therapist for a few months now, but kind as she is, she prefers not to talk what happend in my childhood. And I’m getting nowhere with the therapy. Gladly she told she quits her job so I will get a new therapist.
I don’t know if it’s called a burn-out what I have. But have been tired nevertheless, been very forgetful and scared. Mother passed away, ( I had a very bad relationship with her) but all the childhood crap is coming up now. I will plough trough tho. But I hope you see some good luck in any department for me. I am really sorry you had to deal with this at Christmas and the ruling was not in your favour with the insurance company. You wonder if you can make a deal with them or if you will have to pay a larger amount of money – or even need to face charges. Okay so with all of this we look to your birth chart for anything in Taurus in the Second House of money, and Scorpio in the Eighth House of insurance. Thank you very much Niya. The United Nations will transform in the Twenties and get rid of many of its problems in 2021. Even though January, February, March are chaotic for the UN, it will come good by April and by Christmas 2021 people will be stunned at the progress made with every country. From 2023 we see major political changes at the top of government in the most powerful nations, but also with countries where the leadership has been a problem. By 2030 none of us will recognise the UN as we knew it back before 2020 and it will have saved us from the worst dangers of Climate Emergency and COVID-19. It sounds like a miracle, I know, but the perfect storm of factors the UN always needed to succeed is coming, including a transformation of the world economy.
