Animal Astrology and Paw Reading
I have worked (with humans) as a professional astrologer at ELLE, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue – but animals were never on my radar, until I began working on two books. Funny Bones (Allen and Unwin) and A Friend Called Alfie (Avon) which both involved quite detailed sections on cats, dogs and their horoscopes. This led me from birth signs into psychic paw reading, and it’s an exciting new discovery about personality and compatibility – read by toes.
In this feature I’ll share what Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on This Morning (ITV) called my ‘feline whispering’ secrets. And more on individual toe reading, which I’ve talked about on Studio 10 (Ten) in Australia.
But let’s start with some dogs!
Dogstrology
If you are curious about your dog in particular, please look up this feature, Dogstrology, based on their Sun sign or solar (birthday) sign. Of course it works for adopted dogs too. Use the day you take them home.
Mercury Petrograde
Animals respond to cycles just as we do. Mercury Retrograde in their world is Mercury Petrograde, when everything and everybody goes backwards or delivers the most peculiar results. So do keep track of this cycle (we are just finishing one, September-November, 2020).
Even The Guardian was interested in this phenomenon of Mercury Petrograde. See this great story, Why I Had to Check My Dog’s Horoscope.
A Friend Called Alfie and Catstrology
I’m sure you know Rachel Wells’ Sunday Times bestselling Alfie series if you are a cat lover as her books have been translated into 11 different languages. I worked with Rachel on a special Alfiescopes/Catstrology section in A Friend Called Alfie. Here is an extract.
Animal Astrology in Vogue
There is a huge interest in animal astrology out there in the Twenties. The Japanese adore cats and VOGUE Japan asked me to write about cat astrology in a recent issue, here.
Adoption Date Signs and Joe Biden’s Dog
It’s quite true. The date of homecoming or sign-off papers works really well when analysing your pet’s sign. President Elect Joe Biden has two German Shepherd dogs, Champ (12) and Major (2). Champ was purchased from a breeder in Pennsylvania and Major was adopted from the Delaware Humane Association.
White House Animals
Major makes history on January 20th, 2020, the date of the inauguration, as the first shelter dog to move into the White House. He is a Scorpio, like Joe Biden, and Major was adopted on November 17th 2018.
Did you know animals have always been in the White House, apart from the recent term of Donald Trump?
Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt had a one-legged rooster, horses, dogs, a Hyacinth macaw parrot, kangaroo rats, five guinea pigs (Presidential Pet Museum). He also had a short-tempered badger named Josiah and a green garter snake named Emily Spinach.
Funnily enough in 1904, King Menelik of Abyssinia gave Mr. Roosevelt a lion cub named Joe and a hyena named Bill (The New York Times). Maybe he knew…
Spotty Toes and Paw Reading
Interested in paw reading? The cat toe which has the biggest, or most spots, shows you if your cat is a Fire, Earth, Air or Water type. Lady Alfie, who belongs to Rachel Wells, has the biggest blob on her Air toe – associated with Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. Lady Alfie has ended up with a novelist, which is terrific for an airy type.
This is a really good photograph which shows the blotchy third toe along. Lady Alfie also has a Leo chart signature so she’s Queen of Rachel’s household.
Compatibility and the Air Sign Cat
These are the signs – Gemini, Libra, Aquarius (humans, cats, dogs) Lady Alfie gets on best with, which Rachel isn’t surprised to hear, as she is a Pisces and the relationship with Lady Alfie is…complicated!
How To Read Toes
To read toes with a cat or dog use the leading paw (the paw that is used to wash with, or do a High Five with, for example). Look for the spottiest, most oddly coloured or biggest toe. One that bulges, perhaps.
The first toe on the left-hand side is the Fire toe, associated with Aries, Leo, Sagittarius.
The second toe on the left-hand side is the Earth toe, associated with Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn.
The third toe, moving around the paw towards the right-hand side is the Air toe, associated with Gemini, Libra, Aquarius.
The fourth and last toe, on the extreme right-hand side of the paw, is the Water toe, associated with Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces.
The Fire Sign Cat
This photograph of a fire sign type by Joao Vitor Marcilio, shows the first toe with a black splodge, characteristic of animals who are warm, fierce and sometimes fiery. Fire is associated with Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. These cats are leaders, dominate, don’t like to play second fiddle to a dog, and are movers and shakers in your home.
The Fire Sign Dog
The first toe is bulging or spotty. This is a fierce, fast and furious (sometimes fuming) fire sign type. Dominated by the signs Aries, Leo and Sagittarius you have a potential biter and fighter on your hands. You certainly have an explorer. This dog has a big personality and leads the pack.
The Earth Sign Cat
The first toe of the leading paw is spottiest, bulgiest or most obvious. This is a Taurus/Virgo/Capricorn dominant sign cat, who is slow and steady, loves to eat your food, can hoard toys, and has four paws on the floor. Solid as a rock and sometimes physically quite solid too.
The Earth Sign Dog
Look for a bulging or oddly coloured second toe (second toe from the left). This is an earth sign dog. Down-to-earth, grounded, with all four paws firmly on the kitchen floor. Loves burying bones, digging them up, collecting toys (let’s be honest, hoarding toys) and going to work with you. Or just…working at home with you. Practical, level-headed, dependable, reliable – this is the earth hound. This photograph by Ruby Schmank shows the characteristically big second toe.
So Which Paw?
Read the paw that a cat washes with (or leads with) in everyday life. For a dog, read the paw that he or she raises for tricks, or seems to favour, when walking.
The Air Sign Cat
If your cat has the spottiest or bulgiest toe, third along from the left-hand side of the paw (the third toe) then expect a chatty cat who likes to sit on the computer or just – get in the way of your typing. Air rules communication and the airy type with a very spotty third toe, will sometimes copy your speech. A meow that sounds like ‘hello’ is typical.
Same Colour Toes
What if a dog or cat has the same coloured toes, with no spots? Look for one toe which is bulging, bigger or more ‘wonky’ (misshapen) than the rest.
This cat photographed by Francesco Ungaro has a ‘lead’ first toe. The first toe is ruled by the element of Fire, so this is a Fire sign type cat. The fire signs are Aries, Leo, Sagittarius. True to form, they do like basking next to the fire, or at least a fan heater.
The Cat Paw Pad
The cat paw pad forms part of the whole paw, and a psychic can hold a cat’s paw in her hand, or look at a picture, and form an impression of the overall personality of the animal.
The Air Sign Dog
Dominated by Gemini, Aquarius and Libra air signs, this is the dog with a prominent or spotty/coloured third toe. Here we have a barker and maybe a crooner – perhaps a howler. Lots of funny individual sounds help this dog to fashion his/her own language. This animal needs space so lots of outdoors walks but some space indoors too. Too much closeness doesn’t really suit the airy dog.
The Water Sign Cat
Photographed by Michelle Calderon, this is a water sign type with a completely black fourth toe along (the fourth toe is ruled by the element of water, and the signs Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces). This is a sensitive, emotional, psychic cat. Passionate and ruled by her/his feelings, this animal usually has an intense stare.
The Water Sign Dog
Blessed with eyes like pools, trembling emotions and a very big or noticeably spotty fourth toe (fourth from the left) the water sign dog is dominated by Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces and is all about feelings. This dog responds to sad or dramatic television shows or films and tunes into your reactions, psychically.
Reading the Whole Animal
To really tune into an animal, you do need to consider the whole creature. Cats and dogs are very close to us, and if you are a natural psychic, you can read them from head to toe – literally. Holly Willoughby’s cat Bluebell thinks all the flowers sent to Holly’s home are for her (and she does in fact pounce on them when they arrive, so they have to stop her eating them).
Here are some quick notes for all the lovely This Morning viewers from around Britain who sent their photographs into the show.
Bonsai – This beautiful rescue cat is really enjoying the luxury of space, comfort, warmth, peace and quiet and just feels she landed on her feet with you. She’ll even put it up with it, if you put a Christmas paper hat on her this year.
Penny – Dear little Gemini Penny would absolutely love another animal, or even a bird in the house. She is extremely bright, knows exactly what you are feeling, and is a sympathetic (cat) ear when you need it most.
Marmalade – Another Gemini. Gemini does in fact rule television so no wonder all these June-born cats were silently urging you to send their photographs into the show. That big, blotchy second toe from the left is a true ‘earth’ toe and Marmalade is down-to-earth, grounded, get-real about life and does in fact – love her food.
Missy – You say she is an angry Virgo and lives with three cats. That is of course the reason as she is very fussy about cleanliness and hygiene and she feels the others are a bit too messy sometimes. She may appreciate her own separate space. She does love a garden, if you have one – or even just a window box.
