1. Dear Jessica,
   I have just gone through a terrible divorce after 10 years of marriage. My husband cheated then filed for divorce. It has been devistating. I have been alone for 2 years. I need to know if things are going to get better? Is this Mercury Rentrograde? I was born in California, USA, February 4, 1966 at 9:30pm

   1. I am very sorry about your husband and the divorce. This is not Mercury Retrograde. It is the fact that you had Saturn in Scorpio going through your Tenth House of position, mission and ambition between the end of 2012 and 2015. You clearly identified with your ‘job’ as wife so much that your horoscope decided this *was* your job, and so when other Aquarians were having major struggles with their career, you had it with your marriage. You have Neptune at 22 Scorpio in your birth chart, so it was a double whammy. You had to deal with the money, the possessions, the house or apartment as well. Hit ‘Search’ and look up Scorpio to find out more about these kinds of marriages. The good news is, the worst is over. In fact you will be thrilled with the way the universe pays you back financially, or through cash in kind, when Jupiter moves into Scorpio at the end of 2017 and throughout 2018. At that point you could also get into a new relationship with particularly meaning for you financially, or with property. In the meantime please join a group or do more with the old group. You are strongly Aquarian and you need a tribe. It heals you.

2. Hi Jessica

   I seem to have a permanently terrible time with Mercury, retrograde or not: my emails go constantly missing, important documents and payments get lost, I touch any electronic equipment or machines and it tends to crash or bug (my husband is the only one allowed to pay at car parking payment stations). The last episode was on Tuesday when the check-out in a shop in Lyon (France) crashed during my card transaction and I ended up waiting 45 minutes in the shop before they let me go (the check out had still not recovered and I could tell the checkout girl hated my guts as she was supposed to be finishing at that time and could not leave; she assumed it was my fault as I used a ‘foreign’/UK credit card). The IT guy could have pitched a tent next to my PC when I was working as he had to come and reboot my computer on a near daily basis.

   This lifelong issue has made me appear completely paranoid as I click every receipt option when I send emails and panic every time a document does not reach the intended destination quickly. I also spend my life at PC World with laptop problems, problems which tend to disappear the minute one of their members of staff looks into it: ‘it looks fine to me’ is what I often hear after not being able to even access documents back at home. If it was not for my husband being a witness to the earlier problems and being with me talking to the tech guy, I think I would have been accused of having an IT Munchausen by proxy syndrome a long time ago…

   Can you see anything in my chart that can explain why I am so catastrophy-prone re. Mercury and communications of any kind?

   As another example of my bad luck, I have at least two questions on your website blog posts (Neptune and Sinead O’Connor) still left unanswered (when everyone else got the answer to their question), so I hope this one will not join that list…

   1. I am so sorry that my website has added to your Mercury Retrograde issues! I hope this comment appears (and for the record I did reply to your other comments – let me see if I can find them). There is a very simple explanation for your particular issues with this cycle. The average person has up to three factors in Virgo – ruled by Mercury – in her chart. You have four. You are also a Virgo, full stop. Your ruling planet is Mercury so when he goes backwards, you need to be ready. Your IT Munchausen comment is funny – at least you can have a sense of humour about it!

      1. Thanks Jessica, my sense of humour has saved me from ‘brooding’ many times. I have a lot of Virgo friends and my sister is also one: she was born exactly a year minus one day after me; although we appear very different, we are like two sides of the same heavy coin. Our saving grace (and of many of my Virgo friends) is definitely our dry sense of humour: without it, I think we run the risk of turning into really obsessive types that get lost in very deep thinking! Humour helps us take some distance from whatever may hit us…If you can laugh about it, it cannot be that bad! Although there are limits with that philosophy of course.

3. I just had the worst Mercury retrograde ever! 5 Major areas – child, child, security, finances outlaid for the forementioned, sibling, and my phone blew up! leaving me without contact during a truly frightening time.
   The worst that had happened so far during retrograde was two speeding tickets during one travel work trip.
   Since i have a heavy Saturn influence i guess it was that energy plus Mercury Retrograde that did it in this last one!
   However its done and the silver lining is using the Sagittarius energy i had to expand change my way of thinking. What i believed to be true my whole life in one circumstance (with my twin) i had to be forced to see in writing of legal document no less, that what i had believed was true was my fantasy not reality. So had to severe the ties with the twin.
   Silver lining no more wasted energy convincing myself using excuses to explain her behaviour and see reality as it truly is – she has her Karma and has to live with herself.
   I found my serenity peace and joy once i realised the truth and accepted it.
   I truly hope none of the dates above have a resemblance to the last one do they?
   Question how can twins born 20 mins apart be so different? Have you done a blog on this?

   1. I am sorry you had the Mercury Retrograde from hell. I had to cancel two flights so you are not alone. And at least we were not under water like Sydney and Paris! Your question about twins is a good one. I will write a story about twins one day – absolutely. The answer is, twins born 20 minutes apart *may* have a small number of different horoscope factors, purely because 20 minutes is enough to shift one planet (for example) into another zodiac sign and house. The real reason you are so different, though, is the way astrology works. You are the product of your people as well as your place. They also have horoscopes. Those horoscopes create chemistry or alchemy with your own chart so you are a unique experiment. The classic example is two twins both choosing different partners. That alone can trigger two totally different ways of living out the horoscope patterns. If one of you moves to London and the other one moves to Melbourne, both those cities also have charts, which again creates unique chemistry with your own personal chart. Think of it like two cocktails or two laboratory experiments. Both unrepeatable, both an absolute one-off. You would have to have exactly the same friends, lovers, children (impossible), permanent home towns and all the rest to eliminate that – and even then there is the question of freedom of choice!

   I feel like I have been struck in a pit hole for 10 years. Made so much effort to break old patterns from relocation, took a new qualification, changed my career path, tried to create my own business all for nothing. It doesn’t lead me to any success as other astrologer have told me.

   1. I am very sorry you are depressed. Before we go any further, try some free videos and websites online to help you. There is nothing to lose by trying. Start with the world famous Black Dog Institute at http://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au which a good friend of mine works for. Go to YouTube and search ‘hypnosis for depression’ and see what comes up. Professional hypnotherapists donate their work here and with tens of thousands of views and so many positive comments – it has to be working for someone, some of the time! Moving right along to your chart – this is not Mercury Retrograde. This is (firstly) that you were born with Saturn at 20 Libra exactly square Vulcano at 20 Capricorn. This pattern at 20 degrees is being triggered by transiting Uranus at 20 Aries.    I divorced in 2007. My ex was terrible with finances. Our a son who suffered health issues from this. The ex had a massive stroke three years ago and has been hospitalized in England since. Due to my son’s work, he has not been able to return to England since October. I now travel there for a few weeks every couple of months or so. It helps us all to heal. However, I have difficulties with trips and communications when Mercury is retrograde.

   My son and I hope made investments in his tech/app startups in the last couple of years. With my Mercury in Scorpio, I have communication issues with my son and with the guy I was seeing every single time there is a retrograde.

   I want a real partner/companion, but what should I do about Mercury retrogrades in the future? Stop talking to my son and a a new partner (I hope)? Seriously.

   Any insight on communication, finances, and marriage/partnership would be greatly appreciated.

   1. You have been really put through the mill, but it does get better. You have Mars at 22 Scorpio and Chiron at 23 Scorpio. So – you have Mars conjunct Chiron in the Eighth House. This describes your ex, the finances, and the investments with your son. You can hit Search on this website and look up people who share Scorpio factors to see what is going on, in more depth. You are correct in saying you are being affected by retrogrades, but actually it is Mars Retrograde in Scorpio which has been so difficult. It first passed 22 and 23 degrees in February 2016 and that should have been the end of the matter. Instead, it went underground through March, April, May and is now returning – June 19th through July 11th. This is the last part of the story and once it is written you need never go back there again. How should you be writing it? Understand that Mars in the Eighth House is about the need to fight, compete and win. When you put that out there, you will always find yourself in a battle, and sometimes a war. Understanding Mars better is one way to handle this position in your chart. Chiron is one degree away. This is that part of you which wants to see what you can get away with – which has a punk rock attitude – which attempts the so-called impossible or unthinkable. You are a formidable person to be involved with financially, in business or with property and I wonder if you know that? Having Mars himself conjunct your Mars-Chiron placement is like oxygen on a fire and you need to handle this transit carefully. Of course that is what astrology is for – conscious change. Having washed your hands of one burning issue, once and for all, by the second half of July – you can look forward to considerable repair work, healing and improvements when Jupiter goes through Scorpio.       My reply – Keep going with this. The reason you are dealing with Madame/Monsieur Flakey is Mars Retrograde in Scorpio, which rules joint property transactions, including land – and you have a great many Scorpio chart factors. Mars will finally be out of Scorpio on 2nd August which should help you. Then, from October and into November, we see a good flow into this sign. Without knowing this person’s chart it’s hard to say more, yet you have put your foot in the right direction. If this comes off, despite delays or reversals, you should be very happy once Jupiter is in Scorpio, final quarter of 2017 and presumably that is when you would start to see benefits.

7. Hi Jessica, so pretty much nothing has gotten done prior to the 10th and I feel like Mercury Retrograde knocked on my door on August 1st. Everything I do from trying to make a simple doctor appointment for my son is met with frustration and the end result is zip, nada, still at the same place. My car which is a lease is being inspected tomorrow to be returned so this should be lovely. So is it the Post Shadow that’s the worst because the Pre Shadow wasn’t good. How does my chart influence this Mercury Metrograde (LMAO, Metrograde) Hope all is well on your end. Thank you Jessica

   1. Yes, this is a classic Mercury Retrograde cycle, and the shadow begins today (Wednesday 12th) although this year it seems to have been back-announced by a couple of days – Delta grounded all their American flights and the Australian census website is down. Best thing to do with Mercury is treat August and September as dress rehearsals and most of all – allow for other people to be flakey, have e-mail or telephone problems, unreliable and the rest! With your North Node in Virgo you will feel it on a daily routine level – thus the issues with the car and so on.

8. Hello Jessica! I am a little nervous about this Mercury Retrograde! Both myself and a colleague (a very special friend) are both Scorps. he, Oct 27, 1969 and me Nov 13, 1970. We work together in a labor union and we have a very important arbitration case scheduled for late September. We were just notified of the date yesterday, August 10th. Any insight on what to expect?

   1. You have Pluto at 29 Virgo in your Sixth House of work. I don’t have his full chart to check, but yes, you will be affected by Mercury Retrograde. he moves to 29 Virgo on August 30th, 31st so near that date you will have a key discussion/paper trail/meeting. It will then go backwards or change, perhaps even being rescheduled, or the talking points reframed, before the next pass at Virgo 29 on October 7th. This is about your power and control and your natural need to take over/dominate. You do actually have quite a lot of power; a labor union is the ideal job for you. Watch out for empty promises (just be aware) and keep your diary flexible. Check basics like computers, phones, transport. You will get there but it will be a long and winding road. The best way to be the boss of you in this situation is to boss yourself around a bit.

9. Does Mercury Retrograde also cause restlessness? I know this sounds like a stupid question but I have always saved my paperwork, documentation or any legal stuff thnx to your blogs. However, I’ve always noticed a heightened degree of restlessness something that you can’t point your finger on but bothers you and eventually depression for reasons unknown. I’ve noticed this peaking during Mercury retrogrades. As it is patience is not my virtue but with Saturn stationed in Sag I’ve learnt to go with the slow yet sure flow of saturn but Mercury retrograde does stir a bit of anxiety for unknown reasons

   1. If your birth time is accurate you have a Grand Cross involving Mercury in your birth chart. It falls at 1-2 degrees of Cancer, Capricorn, Aries, Libra. That does require a bit of management. Restlessness is a function of Mercury and so is depression – and anxiety too. The cross means Mercury is at cross-purposes with other aspects of yourself, so your inner ‘messenger’ (especially at work) is always running into road blocks or speed humps. This causes frustration. One way around it is to find a physical activity which allows the old messenger of the Gods to ‘gallop’ and work his energy out of his system. Swimming and walking are good, because they involve a lot of stop-start, twist and turn. It’s an outlet. If you don’t use your body but stay desk bound you will definitely feel the typical Mercury/Grand Cross effects. You can read a lot about the Grand Cross elsewhere. It’s unusual and it’s worth knowing about – you can manage it.

    So. Here’s a general mercury question. I was born with Mercury in Sag (direct, not retrograde) so why is life like a constant mercurial retrograde day time soap drama. More misses then hits. Lots of re-writes, re-dos, changes and the like. . . . . Just wondering. When Mercury retrogrades come along, I don’t really seem to notice much difference. . .

    1. Thank you. You are too kind. Chiron and Minerva are both in aspect and are both retrograde in your chart (see the R for Retrograde next to them). Every time you try to ‘do’ your Chiron or your Minerva, you go back and forth. One triggers the other. It’s like having two people tied together in a three-legged race, running backwards.You just have to allow for that, basically. I think your Minerva is the real culprit.     1. Without a birth chart it’s impossible to say, I’m sorry. If you’re a Leo or Aquarius (or your partner is) you might just swing it, but you have to know what you’re doing.

    1. It’s actually happening in your Sixth House in the natural house system. Pick up my free book 2020 Astrology to see how this works. The Sixth House describes the balance between mind, body and spirit and if you have Mars there, you do need to look at the way you handle anger. You also have Fortuna, Apollo and Panacea in Virgo in the Sixth House so, you need to understand Virgo in your life. Find a physical outlet like fast walking, jogging or something else you like to ‘take’ the Mars. This has nothing to do with your in-laws but everything to do with your housework, work, daily routine, lifestyle, gardening and so on. That is what Virgo rules. Of course, if your in-laws affect that, you will feel it. But in general, if ever someone needed to find a physical outlet for anger, it is you. Strenuous yoga might also be an excellent channel for you.

    Your site is fab! Thank you for so freely sharing your gifts and research. If it’s ok to ask, I was hoping you could help me shed some light on a couple of things. We’re immigrants trying to settle long term in Scotland. The education I am currently finishing I am enjoying but it has not been an easy road and I’ve been attending uni for over 18 years (10 years of semester time!) now I’m ready to be finished. The good problem I have is there are many directions I could take afterwards (some require becoming fluent in a language that has been unusually difficult for me to learn) I am interested in so many things – start a non-profit, freelance design, fine artist, professor, buy land and make gin, start a gallery etc. Knowing that the UK immigration system is tenuous always leaves an underlying anxiety about whether or not all of our life investment into our now settled and happy lives will be taken out from under us with some rule change. We’d love to be naturalised upon independence and hope for that to happen. There’s too much at stake for us to lose what we’ve built after rebuilding our lives more than once. I’m just hoping that I can finally have some stability in my life to stay and make a place better than I found it. Thanks so much. Xx

    1. Scotland will divorce the United Kingdom in a second referendum on independence, according to the astrology. So there will be opportunities galore, but not just yet. You could go now, but the United (disunited) Kingdom is in a state of flux and will be until the end of 2017, particularly regarding the rules on immigration, residency, visas, passports, the NHS, unemployment benefits and so on.     1. Mercury is Retrograde in Virgo now and you are not affected – you have nothing in Virgo at the degrees where is is passing through. You will be affected by other people’s delays or changes, of course. Thank you.

    1. Thank you. As long as you treat your website like a dress rehearsal that’s fine. The final production will come later as you have a couple of Virgo factors in your Sixth House of work and of course Mercury is Retrograde in Virgo in the same place. Read the fine print on the contract with not only this Middle East client, but any other from another country/culture. Really be aware of the realities of where it all might take you by 2017.

21. Hi Jessica, my son and his girl (Lindsey) have been in the process of purchasing this particular house since April 16, 2016. The whole process has been stop and go and they are currently at the end of the process and Lindsey is panicking over closing on the house pre and and during Mercury retrograde yet unfortunately as it stands, this is likely the time it will be happening. I don’t know what dwarf planets or asteroids are in there chart. The only Virgo position for both of them is my son Virgo 12 sun sign. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

    1. This is about Cancer and the Fourth House in your son’s horoscope and also his girlfriend’s, and possibly Scorpio and the Eighth House. Do they have placements there? I suspect one of them has Scorpio factors which would explain the endless delays. This is not about Mercury Retrograde in Virgo, but it is very likely to have been the long Mars Retrograde transit through Scorpio.

22. Why does Mercury Retrograde affect me ALL the time (I might be exaggerating)? The costs are always huge! Either money (numerous instances; one example – spilled water on a brand new laptop), flight delays (I travel every week) throughout that period, I rescinded an accepted offer (which actually turned out to be good) and now it is causing havoc already – even in the shadow period. I called an airline agent to find out the costs for canceling a booked ticket and the agent actually canceled it after saying please contact your company travel agent! A miscommunication between my co-worker and I that caused a major embarrassment with a client and a lot of good will damage and of course money. We both are still in shock on how this happened (two of the best employees in the company). Want to hide on a remote island with no electronic communication until October! I am dreading on how an important presentation in two weeks is going to go at this rate! May be time to take a long break or even resign and go to that remote island!

    1. This sounds so frustrating for you. You were actually born with Mercury Retrograde and he forms patterns (within one degree orb) to several other horoscope factors in your personal birth chart. This basically means that any time Mercury Retrograde passes 13, 14, 15 degrees of a sign, he triggers your own Mercury, and then the rest of the chart as a whole. One thing that may help is tracking the days you see Mercury passing 13, 14, 15 and factoring in a dress rehearsal period at that time when you are free to make first, second or third attempts – and likewise, when Mercury returns to that degree, allowing for the next part of the rehearsal period to move back and forth. Give yourself wiggle room. This can work for you, but you have to treat Mercury like a courier on a motorbike skidding backwards.

23. HI Jessica, I didn’t quite know where to put this question, but my family and i are on the verge of becoming homeless. I thought I would post it under Virgo, but then I saw this post and given that this has happened during a Mercury retro, I thought it might be better here. Anyways, bottom line is we are struggling to see how we can get ourselves in a situation asap to find a safe happy home for our family, especially with such limited resources at present. I am scratching my head to see where the Jupiter in Libra in my 6th house benefits are with this one! I do believe everything happens for a reason and deep down I also know that we will be fine, but my consciousness has risen to panic state. I do recall in January you mentioned that we would have the opportunity to move to a place similar to one we had about 99/00, or 15 years ago. I’ll admit they were great houses, but we are not in that same financial boat anymore. Is there housing happiness on the horizon? Many thanks for your invaluable help as always. xx P.s.     1. I am sorry you have the anxiety of possible homelessness. Jupiter in Libra is not in your Sixth House, by the way, it is in your Seventh House, using the Natural House system. What I said in January holds. You will have the opportunity to move to a place similar to the one you had around 15 years ago. If you have come across a place now go and see it. Don’t hesitate. Mercury Retrograde just means – have Plan B. It should not stop you doing things.

24. I understand Mercury retrograde but being a Virgo with a stellium, I am worried that the actual dates over a year total many months. That is a big chunk out of the year!
    Trying to avoid buying certain products is not always possible. My son needs a new laptop as he is off to university in 2 weeks. The money wasn’t available earlier, plus we have done lots of research into the best one for him. He has taken a few months really looking into it.
    We now need to purchase it this weekend, do I presume we’ll have problems?

    1. Mercury Retrograde never stops me from buying a laptop either but I do read the fine print and read the terms and conditions. In general we always have mess and muddle three times a year. Right now 44 million Britons have woken up to find they’ve been hacked and Google Drive is down. American airports are shutting down because of Irma and that affects us all. So – it pays to have Plan B. It is impossible to say if your son’s laptop will come a cropper without knowing his chart and the chart of the person selling it to him! But in general, just cover yourself. And you are, so that’s good.

25. Hi Jessica,
    The Mercury retrograde phase is repetitive event and it lasts for months in one year. I have Leo natal retrograde Mercury and I am always late, on everyday activities, but also on flights etc. Few times I missed them. I had a solar eclipse this August on my natal Leo Mercury . How it can affect my life since Mercury is my ruler? I am starving for changes in all important areas of my life. Completely stuck for about two years.

    1. Stuck for two years, is stuck for too long and it’s going to be more than just Mercury Retrograde. You never planted the big idea. I don’t think it’s gone anywhere. You need to either travel or move, but you can’t do that until you take that huge, high-potential plan or concept that appeared like a vision in the heavens, last two years – and make it real. When you make it real and ground it, you make it happen then a trip or move is possible.
